The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai (Unrated- No One Under 18 Admitted!)

Release Date: April 13th, 2007 (Cinema Village) by Palm Pictures.
The Cast: Emi Kuroda, Yukijiro Hotaru, Kyoko Hayami, Tetsuaki Matsue, Takeshi Ito. Directed by Mitsuru Meike.
In Japanese with subtitles.

BASIC PREMISE: When Sachiko Hanai (Kuroda), a Japanese call girl, gets a bullet lodged in her head, she develops new powers and finds a cylinder containing the cloned finger of George W. Bush, whose fingerprint can set off a nuclear missile.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: This perverse and shocking film, a.k.a. Japanese “pink” film, will entertain those who have a very open mind and, especially, a twisted sense of humor. It’s basically a softcore porn flick with a plot, albeit a zany, over-the-top one. Instead of dying from a bullet wound in her forehead, Sachiko Hanai acts much smarter, i.e. solving complicated math problems and learning new languages. She still works as a call girl, but this time, she gets a job as a home tutor for her professor’s teenage son and has sexual relations with both father and son—separately, of course. Meanwhile, she must stop evil men from taking away from her a cylinder that holds pink, cloned finger that belongs to George W. Bush. Nearly every other scene feels like an excuse to watch more sexual behavior. Screenwriter Takao Nakano and director Mitsuru Meike certainly have the audacity to create such a relentlessly wild plot. The hilarity of it all comes from the bizarre mixture of philosophy, politics and sex—how many films have you seen when a woman mentions Noam Chomsky while having sex? If your idea of sex mixing with politics is Bush using telepathic powers to get Sachiko off, so-to-speak, with his cloned finger, then this is the film for you.

SPIRITUAL VALUE: None is required or desired.

INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None, as long as you suspend your disbelief.

NUMBER OF TIMES I CHECKED MY WATCH: 0

IN A NUTSHELL: Relentlessly audacious, bizarre and shocking. An outrageously funny combination of sex, politics and philosophy.

RECOMMENDED WAY TO WATCH: Movie Theater (especially for open-minded adults w/ a twisted sense of humor)
