Release Date: December 1st, 2006 (Cinema Village) by withoutabox.
The Cast: Arin Crumley, Susan Buice, Marc Scrivo, Joe Griffin, Brad Calcaterra.
Directed by Arin Crumley and Susan Buice.

BASIC PREMISE: It’s about Arin (Crumley) and Susan (Buice), two lonely New Yorkers, meet on the internet and begin a relationship offline and online without verbal communication.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: Four Eyed Monsters reinvigorates the romantic film genre with its refreshingly original premise, lively and stylish visuals, as well as plenty of pizzazz. Although its title would make for a funny Sci-Fi film about monsters with eyeglasses, it actually refers to a metaphor about modern couples who live and breathe together. One particular couple from New York City, Arin and Susan, meet via the internet and refuse to follow one very basic custom of these “four eyed monsters”: verbal communication. Instead, they communicate through email, notepads and video cameras. Will their relationship survive this fascinating experiment and obstacle? Another obstacle they encounter as a couple is Arin’s obsessive fear of STDs from his past partners. Anyone who lives in this Computer Age will not only care about their relationship, but will also relate to them to some degree. Arin Crumley and Susan Buice, who also star, do an amazing job of keeping this ultra-hip romance consistently engaging through imaginative, quirky animation and stylish, fast-paced editing. At the same time, they still managing to bring out the charm and personality of the two leads who struggle to keep their romantic chemistry alive. Crumley and Buice have bravely invested their hearts and minds and souls into every single frame. The result is astonishingly original, bold and delightfully refreshing.

SPIRITUAL VALUE: Our hustle-and-bustle society often feels very much like a “ghost world” with impersonal means of communication, i.e. through calling, emailing and texting. Ultimately, there’s no better way for anyone in any kind of relationship to communicate than by talking face-to-face with the one they love (or like) while, concurrently, feeling proud of being a “four eyed monster”.

INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: Absolutely none.
